Practical reliability budgets to guide trade-offs
A reliability budget (error budget) helps teams balance feature velocity against stability. Define an SLO, calculate allowable error budget over a time window, and make the state of that budget visible. Use the budget to gate experiments, rollouts and scope of change. Establish explicit actions when budgets are exhausted, such as pausing risky deployments, increasing monitoring or dedicating a sprint to remediation.
